Apres Image (after image, Fench)

It has become an accepted practice for galleries and artists to call prints that have had any paint added to their surface “mixed medium originals.” But soon the public will become aware that in many cases the artist merely added a brush stroke or two, and they're likely to feel deceived. So I will not do that. However I do create and accept commissions for additions to, or changes on my pigment based Giclees. For instance you could have your pet dog blended into the ambiance of the Giclee that appeals to you. Because that calls for a change in the title, like “The Mariner with John‘s Dog.” it qualifies. I have already done a couple of those; and since I was a portrait painter for years I captured their likeness. The thing is, the Giclees were thus changed in ways that were significant to the patrons who ordered them.

Perhaps you will have your own idea of what you’d like to commission me to add to one of my Giclee on canvas for you.

Dreams

One day a young man was standing in front of the original of “A Treehouse for One Who Dreams of Flying” and we started a conversation, wherein found out he is a Coast Guard helicopter pilot; and that he liked that painting.  The conversation continued with him asking me if I could change the Bi wing plane in the field into a flying boat, and I said sure, but I’d have to change the field into water, perhaps a bay. He agreed. So I suggested putting some shacks and piers with boats across the water as a background. Then he requested, - - - well it went on from there. By the time we were finished planning that painting, it had to be six inches longer than the original, and it included his wife when she was the age of the boy picking flowers.

That was the very first Apres Image I did, and it’s titled “A Treehouse For One Who Dreams of Flying Boats.”
